The other day, I decided to go on a solo Seattle wandering trip where I have no agenda with nothing in mind, no purpose, no expectations and a full day of simply wandering. Even though I’ve been in Seattle for four years, I felt like I was so locked up in the University District area where I went to school. Now looking back, I’m not so sure that I made the best of those four years getting to know the city. I don’t like regrets and this is not necessarily a regret, but yes, even though I was overwhelmingly busy at times with design work, it’s really soaking in just in these recent months as I have gained much more free time, that you really don’t need a pre-planned trip or a set up group exploration date to stumble upon awesome places that exude it’s own unique vibe. That day, I probably went into at least 15 different stores, shops, cafes, or view points and each place was somewhere that I have once heard of but have never made my way there, a place that I’ve once been to a loooong time ago and forgot about, or a hidden gem that caught my eye from the street corner and had me running towards it, thinking “WHAT THE HECK IS THAT?!” Along the way, I met some great Seattleites who were passionate about their jobs, their lives, and simply had…stroooong…energies. As the day went on wandering from place to place, I had so many conversations with strangers who told me stories, gave me the must-see lists of things they loved in Seattle, and each time, I increasingly felt a boost in my energy and spirit. The little things I don’t go out of my way to do on a regular basis had me forgetting the joy and happiness that can come from them and how reviving those moments can be. I didn’t care about my worries, my thoughts that usually sprint back and forth throughout the day or the list of tasks I had written down on my notebook when I got home that night. I was totally in. the. moment.
For a day of adventures, outfit wise, I want to be super comfortable but I also love to feel casually ‘cool’ when walking down the city streets…yes, cool, but c’mon, it’s a day to yourself, you want to feel good (who doesn’t) and it’s an excuse to put some thought into your outfit and try that new cat-eye look you saw on a beauty channel on YouTube (which was truly my case.) Who knows, you may stumble upon a festival (which is not uncommon in Seattle), that cute boy serving you coffee, or whatever. You knows what I means. Just make sure that those shoes you’re wearing are labeled for ‘hiking’ too because if you’re a Seattleite you know that you will pretty much be walking on a treadmill at incline level 10 wherever you go. For me, leveled platforms do me good since they have no heel and lock in well with the ankle straps. If you also have wide feet like me, the one I’m wearing with this outfit is very very friendly on them poor toes.
